About Arun
![]()
In 1997, Arun Property Development (Pty) Ltd purchased a 182 ha piece of land from the University of Stellenbosch, which became its first project. This project, which entailed the rezoning and subdivision of this land into several residential, business and institutional portions, is now the popular Sonstraal Heights in Durbanville.
As the abovementioned development started growing, Arun started broadening its development fields in Sonstraal Heights by first developing a sectional title complex, Bakersfield (2002) and then the standard setting group house development, Wedgewood in 2003. Whilst setting the standard elsewhere, back home in the Helderberg Basin, construction started on Arun Place.
Situated next to the Vergelegen Medi Clinic, Arun Place was designed bearing in mind the potential of demand for A-Grade office space in this region. With Building 1 completed in 2000, Building 7 was completed during 2001, Building 2 in 2002 and Building 3 in 2005 and Building 6 in 2008 totalling the Gross Lettable Area in this development at 6700 square metres, proving the Arun vision of a strong Helderberg Economy to be correct.
Whilst catering on the one hand for the strong economy, Arun also realized the need for affordable housing within its backyard and started the development now known as Broadway Business Centre. Situated on Broadway, Strand, bulk pieces of land have been sold off Shoprite, Caltex and other developers (for the purpose of residential developments).
While all the above was happening, 2004 was set to become Arun’s biggest year to date: Continuing on its standard setting reputation, Arun completed the critically acclaimed 'The Falls' apartment block at the Tygervalley Waterfront, an architectural masterpiece with amongst the highest levels of specifications in the Waterfront. This was followed up by the purchase of a portion (180ha) of De Grendel’s Farm, which gave birth to Baronetcy Estate.
With various forms of rezoning, including a massive commercial site, general residential sites and a number of single residential sites in place, this unique opportunity has been labelled 'the Clifton of the Northern Suburbs' and promises to be yet another product of superior quality.
Arun launched Villa Caponero in 2004, the first group housing development in Baronetcy Estate and on the other side of the hill, Sagewood, one of the last group housing developments in Sonstraal Heights.
Fiddlewood, a 13 unit group house development which is one of the first E-State developments in the country, were launched in 2005.
In the commercial development field, Broadway Business Centre in Strand and the Mediator situated at the Interchange were completed successfully in 2006.
With 2007 following on such a great year, Arun looks set to an even better year with the launch of the Avanti office Towers in the Tyger Falls business district. 2008 & 2009 saw further expansion of the Arun Place office park as well as investment in the popular Stellenbosch Octoplace development.
As we enter the second decade of 2010, Arun looks set to take on the strengthening South African economy with the new Baronetcy expansion and a host of other exciting projects that are still in the pipeline.
